Archives Committee

This committee gathers historical data and other memorabilia pertinent to Chicago Area AA including, but not limited to, oral and written histories, correspondence, newspaper articles, literature, etc.
CASA (Chicago Area Service Assembly)

The CASA guides and councils the affairs and services of Chicago Area Alcoholics in the spirit of The Twelve Traditions of AA.
CASO (Chicago Area Service Office)

CASO handles the day-to day business dealings and maintains the member/group database as well as providing a retail store for Alcoholics Anonymous Literature and other recovery related merchandise.
CFC (Correctional Facilities Committee)

CFC cooperates with all correctional institutions in the Chicago Area explaining AA's role with inmates who seek help, sponsoring and participating in AA meeting, groups and other activities within the scope of the Fellowship.
COC (Committee On Conferences)

COC insures proper participation of Chicago Area AA in State and local conferences, including cooperation with other State Delegate Areas. COC also assists with the annual All Chicago Open Meeting and performs such other services as necessary to the Chicago Area.
CPC (Cooperation with the Professional Community)

CPC provides information about AA to those who have contact with alcoholics through their profession. Examples are physicians, nurses, lawyers, judges, social workers, union leaders and industrial managers as well as those working in the field of alcoholism.
Districts District committees consist of the GSR's for each meeting in that district plus the elected chair of the district (DCM - District Committee Member). DCM's sit on the area assembly. Most districts meet on the third tuesday of the odd month. Check the district meeting schedule for more information.
Finance Committee

This committee is responsible for all matters relating to office management, records, personnel, finances and expenditures of Chicago Area Alcoholics Anonymous.
Grapevine Committee

This committee acquaints members with the publication The Grapevine, and presents it as a tool in maintaining individual and group sobriety through its many attractions.
Here's How Editorial Board

Manager Editor
The Board is responsible for our version of The Grapevine. Here's How is printed six times per year by CASO, under the auspices of CASA. It's function is to generate interest in a greater unity between the thousands of groups in the Chicagoland Area.
HTF (Hospitals & Treatment Facilities)

HTF cooperates with hospitals, treatment and rehabilitation facilities in the Chicago Area regarding AA's relationship with such facilities, sponsorship of AA Meetings and groups in such facilities.
24-Hour Phone Volunteers

This committee ensures that there is always an alcoholic on the other end of the phone, even when calling after the area office is closed.
Literature Committee

The Literature Committee is newly formed in 2003. Its purpose is to help the Office decide what literature to carry in the bookstore.
PI (Public Information Committee)

PI carries the message of Alcoholics Anonymous to schools, collages and various public agencies and other interested organizations utilizing all the available media in accordance with The Twelve Traditions and guidelines of CASA.
Sharing Session

This meeting allows The District Chairpersons and Committee Chairpersons to get acquainted, discuss and share problems occurring within the Districts, Standing and Ad Hoc Committees. It's other purpose is to present and discuss new ideas to improve service in The Chicago Area AA. Usually, the meeting is chaired by the alternate CASA Chair.
Special Needs

This Committee addresses the needs of Special Groups within AA, such as the deaf and hard of hearing community and our bi-lingual community.
Structure

This committee reviews and suggests modifications of the Chicago Area Structure as required by the continuing growth and changes in The Fellowship. It is chaired by the alternate Area Chairperson.
Website Committee

The website committee is an ad-hoc committee formed by the Area Chairperson to manage to area website. The committee will consist of a chairperson and any additional members who wish to participate. The committee is responsible for creating this policy and for managing the area website. The website committee has two primary functions:

  1. Editorial: responsible for general oversight and handling queries about what should be on the website when not covered by comments elsewhere in this policy.
  2. Technical: responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the website, including modifying layout and content. This is typically the webmaster. Major changes to layout and design will not happen without consulting the full website committee. Paid technical consultants may be necessary for advanced programming of the website. Hiring of technical consultants is subject to approval by the appropriate bodies (Finance).
